Rebecca St James is a hugely popular international artist. This
was her only Scottish date of 2004. The concert took place in
Destiny Church, Glasgow, where we have covered many different
events over the years.
Rebecca travels with her own sound and lighting engineers, but
we were responsible for supplying all the sound and lighting equipment
to the tour specifications. This included a full FOH speaker system,
FOH and monitor mixing boards, and intelligent moving lights.
Destiny have a reasonable amount of technical equipment installed,
so we used some of the church’s own lighting dimmers, and
control lines. All video content was also handled by an in-house
team.
Rebecca and her band were travelling from the previous night’s
concert in Belfast, so arrived quite late in the afternoon. Time
was at a premium, but we were prepared, so everything was ready,
although people were working right up until the last minute.
Superhero provided support, a band which we have worked with
many times in the past. They were setup and sound checked earlier
in the day, and we mixed them using a separate desk from Rebecca’s
band, so that all settings were the same between sound checks
and the actual performance.
Superhero were the only band using standard wedge monitor speakers,
as Rebecca and all of her band use in-ear monitoring. This meant
that a total of sixteen monitor sends had to be provided (eight
artists, each with a stereo mix). In addition to the wireless
monitor system, there were a total of eight other radio systems
in use, meaning that there were a lot of radio frequencies to
manage.
The gig was a sell-out, and the church was packed full right from
the moment doors opened. The concert was very successful, with
a great response from the crowd.
