Every August, Scripture Union Scotland hold their “Big
Celebration” at Lendrick Muir. The event marks the end of
the summer camp season, and the day serves various purposes. It
is a get-together for teams, a worship time, and a chance to discuss
new initiatives and developments.
The main sessions take place in the large games hall, the only
room on site big enough to hold everyone. The hall is an extremely
challenging acoustic space, with great care needed to get intelligible
sound. It is also fairly drab looking, as all such halls are.
We helped provide atmosphere by adding staging, a backdrop behind,
and extensive lighting.
Different atmospheres were needed for each part of the day. In
the morning, a large-scale brainstorming session was held. There
was a gentle coloured wash over the tables, and we were careful
to provide enough light to write by! In the evening there was
a worship celebration, and we went with a more dramatic style,
with bolder colours and a strong focus on the praise band at the
front.
We were covering two other major events on the same day, which
required a lot of logistical planning and careful equipment allocation.
The whole weekend ran without a hitch, and we covered all the
events entirely from our own equipment stock.
